Kane's last play, 4:48 Psychosis, is based on personal experiences of severe depression which she suffered throughout her life. Kane never saw the play produced. In 1999, within a few months of completing the script, she committed suicide. Despite this, 4:48 Psychosis is more than just a suicide note, exploring the fragility of human life and the notion of a stable and coherent identity.
